Tune Up? I Thought You Said Trade-In

September 17, 2026

Hi there.

I’m Dean, and as a dealership service department manager, I’m in the best position to tell you what you need done to your car. I have a lot of experience in auto repair and auto sales, which works very well when you bring your car in and there is a problem that may be best solved by showing you this incredible new inventory and walking you through our trade-in specials.

Oh, you’re not here to buy a new car. You just want a tune-up and to see why your brakes are making that noise. Sure. I get it. I get it. We can certainly do that tune-up. It will take… a while… we have some people ahead of you, it's 9 a.m. and we have another tech coming in at 2:30, so... let me take this call. Okay. I'm back with you. It's going to take a while but it’s fine. You get yourself something out of the vending machine and check out our new inventory. Free coffee? No. We don’t have that anymore. There’s an Espresso station. You tap to pay. Lots of good flavors over there. Oh, Ice Cold Air has free coffee. Interesting.Ā

Let me go check with my techs for a moment. You can have a seat or take a look around the showroom. Did I mention we’ve got trade-in deals that just started today? We can also enter you into a drawing to win a cruise or a Weber grill if we can get you in a new vehicle today! No, it’s not for service customers. I’m sorry. You actually have to be getting a new car. Yeah. Sorry. You said tune-up, correct? Not trade-in? Sure. I get it. I get it.

I’m with you. Service and maintenance. Now, when I write up the service for a tune-up, I have to include a lot of other things that may or may not be necessary for your maintenance, but trust me. It’s all with our best interest in mind. I mean, your, your best interest. A tune-up is going to be a bit pricier than taking your car to say, an Ice Cold Air Complete Auto Repair. We don’t have any coupons or discounts or anything like that, unless you’re interested in these incredible trade-in deals, are you? Looking for an upgrade? Lots of amazing new features on that 2027 over there. Sure. I get it. Tune-up not trade-in.

Now, I understand that the service ticket is much more than you anticipated. Oh, a lot more. Much, much more? You’re right. With this much out of pocket, you might as well get a new car at this point. Let me tell you about our trade-in deals! Or at least let’s talk about the benefits of bringing your car to a dealer for service rather than your neighborhood Ice Cold Air.

Top Three Dealer Repair Shop Benefits

  • We keep our techs highly trained on your specific brand of car: Some even work more on manufacturer training programs than they work on actual cars! That’s a lot of training! We pass the training and labor costs on to you, but at least you know your tech has a lot of binders and manuals that they probably won’t read.
  • We treat you like a number: You don’t have to worry about us remembering you or your car, building any kind of pesky relationship with you or your car, or learning anything about how your lifestyle and career may affect the wear and tear on your car. Less conversation with the person actually working on your car, more bottom-line transactions so we can move on.
  • Lots to do while you wait: Overbooking, taking walk-ins, getting new purchases ready, it’s busy back here and our waitimes are usually longer than any independent shop like ICA. But look, we’ve got a big screen television, a lot of other people waiting, which makes for prime people-watching, and if you get too bored, you can walk around the showroom and the lot to see if there’s anything you like. If you had a new car, you wouldn’t be in here wasting your entire morning in the service waiting area. Something to think about. Did I tell you about the trade-in specials?

ā€

Wait. Those didn't quite come out the way I intended, but I better go before you ask me questions about interest rates on auto loans. Not a conversation I want to have if you know what I mean.

Excuse me. I have to take this phone call,

Dean the Dealership Service Manager

Ice Cold Air Complete Auto Repair never upsells, overcharges, or hides behind administrative layers. When you want a service technician that knows cars across manufacturers and knows the needs of their customers, there’s no place better. Sorry, Dean.
