In the spirit of Halloween, I thought it would be helpful to share a few recommendations for vehicles that will help us survive a Zombie Apocalypse. It might seem like a long shot, far from likely occurrence, but if weâve learned anything from shows and movies, Zombie attacks can happen unexpectedly and develop quickly.
I certainly want to make sure we have resources, so if you have rain barrels and treatment packs for potable water, a few protective gear items (Iâll let you decide what I mean by that one), and of course a pantry or cabinet of canned goods like beans, soups, and more beans, then you will be all set for a good while. But, in the movies, there always comes a point in the story when we have to venture out into the deserted streets, either in search of more resources or more survivors, and that takes a capable vehicle. (Note: all the cars/trucks below are older models, so hereâs an ICA used car guide!)

Hereâs the Top Five Vehicles for Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse (According to Hollywood Anyway):
â
2001 Chevrolet S-10: In HBO series, The Last of Us, the S-10 makes its way through the rugged terrain of collapsed cities with huge chunks of rubble, abandoned cars, and overgrown vegetation at every turn. Then, pushing through the snow banks and icy roads of Jackson, Wyoming, to escape Cordycep-brain-virus zombies, the truck makes impossible escapes possible with all-wheel drive, V6 engine with the power of 190 horses. Flip on the fog lights while you mow down zombies on your way to safety and youâll make it back to the safe zone in quick order! â
2007 Ford Expedition EL Limited: What I enjoyed most about I Am Legend was watching Will Smith, but I did clock the truck that became his solace when the infected ran up on him when he got caught in the streets after sundown. The spaciousness of the truck, it seats eight, helped him maneuver inside the vehicle as zombies tried different points of entry, and the V-8 engine with 9000lb hauling capacity means when that thing revved up to ram its way through debris, itâs going to make it no matter who or what has jumped on it or attached itself to the back and sides! â
1998 Volvo V70 SE: This one isnât a truck, but in 28 Weeks Later, the Volvo wagon makes an impression with its speed. Going from 0 to 60 in eight seconds and a top speed of 155 mph, the 190 horsepower engine and wide wheelbase makes this unassuming family car the perfect getaway vehicle for outpacing Rage-Virus monsters looking to eat your brains and nibble your fingers like truffle fries. â
2002 Ford E-450 Super Duty: In Dawn of the Dead, the human survivors are posted up in a suburban Milwaukee shopping mall, trying to survive the reanimated dead multiplying at every turn. Thereâs a really cool scene in the movie where a very muscle-bound Ving Rhames and his crew outfit their Ford E-350 box trucks and passenger buses with ramming bars and reinforced sides. Through the stylized sparks and moody shadows, you know those heavy duty vehiclesâ16 valve V-8 engines with 5,600 lb curb weightâare going to get survivors to safety posts⊠if we can navigate the inevitable soon-to-be-Zombie whoâs hiding his bite wound. â
Cadillac Escalade: This one is sort of my favorite because the Cadillac Escalade is so stylish and so luxury, and I donât know that we should be thinking about style and luxury when trying to escape flesh-eating, reanimated dead people. But in Zombie Land, a very funny, very focused last-Twinkie-hunting Tallahassee, played by Woody Harrelson, brings the pain to the undead in a black Escalade with a Earnhardt, Sr. â3â painted across the door and outfitted with a sharp-edged, front-end V-plow. The truck boasts a horsepower of 345 with 8,100 lb towing capacity with its 5,600 lb curb weight. With a brand thatâs known for class and style, itâs easy to forget that the Escalade is a large, rugged SUV at heart.

Now, will there be a zombie apocalypse any time soon, I donât think so. But is it worth knowing what your ride can do when faced with undead monsters who used to be your neighbors? Absolutely.
Happy Halloween and remember: Never hide your bite!
